KRISTIN KARLSSON
Born 1988
“Drawing for me is a way to capture the world, while also showing how fleeting everything is. All impressions go straight down my arm, through my hand and out into my pencil, resulting in a kind of unreadable shorthand. I listen to the radio while I’m working and the voices that I hear are translated into intricate patterns, with very small rings as the tiniest components.
Time is both a theme and a framework for my drawing. In a way, it is my motif. The drawings shown here have been selected from a larger work titled ‘2/7-2014 – 28/10-2019.’ The drawings in this work were completed during a set period of time. The first drawing took less than an hour, and one hour was then added for each subsequent drawing, until the last drawing which took 38 hours.
Rules are important in my drawing – the restraints of the materials, technique, size and so forth show the infinite number of possible variations. Even if I were to never change any of these conditions, I would be able to continue for at least one lifetime.”
Kristin holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts from the Swedish University College of Arts, Crafts and Design (Konstfack) (2014). She also studied sculpture at Idun Lovén Art School (Konstskolan Idun Lovén) in Stockholm and a programme at Jakobsberg Folk High School (Jakobsbergs folkhögskola).
